PRESBYOPIA / DIFFICULTY READING

What is Presbyopia?

Presbyopia is a condition associated with the aging of the eye that results in the progressively worsening ability to focus clearly on close objects. As your eye’s lens can become less flexible, this makes it more difficult to change shape while focusing on close-up images. As a result, these images appear out of focus.

You may become aware of presbyopia when you start holding books and newspapers at arm's length or further away while reading.
Presbyopia usually becomes noticeable in your early to mid-40s and continues to worsen until around age 65.

Symptoms of Presbyopia

Patients with Presbyopia may notice:
  • The need to hold reading material at arm's length.
  • Blurred vision at a normal reading distance
  • Headaches or fatigue from doing close work

How is Presbyopia Treated?

Treatment options include
  • wearing corrective eyeglasses (spectacle lenses) or contact lenses
  • undergoing refractive surgery
  • getting lens implants for presbyopia
